Arsenal suffer double injury blow as Thomas Partey returns with knee problem and Kieran Tierney is forced off for Scotland. Kieran Tierney also had a knock while serving with his country, and Thomas Partey has returned to Arsenal with a knee ailment.

The 29-year-old Partey was scheduled to start for Ghana against Brazil on Friday but was removed from the lineup minutes before kickoff after collapsing during the final warm-up.

The midfielder would likely be available for Tuesday’s match against Nicaragua, according to early reports, but Ghana has now confirmed Partey has returned to north London for more evaluation.

Thomas Partey was given permission to return to London for additional evaluation after suffering a suspected knee injury on Friday, only minutes before the international friendly match against Brazil, according to a statement.

Arsenal suffer double injury blow as Thomas Partey returns with knee problem and Kieran Tierney is forced off for Scotland. ‘The 29-year-old was set to start for the Black Stars but just a few minutes before kick-off, was forced to withdraw after picking up a knock.

‘The 29-year old was withdrawn as a precautionary measure and replaced by RCD Mallorca midfielder Baba Idrissu.’

Arsenal host Tottenham in the first north London derby of the season immediately following the international break on 1 October with Partey’s latest knock a potential blow to Mikel Arteta’s plans.

The Gunners are also facing a wait to discover if Kieran Tierney will be available after the Scotland international picked up a head injury against Republic of Ireland on Saturday night.

Despite wanting to play on, the left-back was forced off during the first-half of the Nations League clash at Hamden Park.

Takehiro Tomiyasu meanwhile has withdrawn from the Japan squad due to ‘club circumstances’. The 23-year-old has been struggling with calf problems since the summer and missed Arsenal’s pre-season tour of the United States.

Tomiyasu has not started a Premier League match for Arsenal this term, with Ben White having been the number one choice for Arteta at right-back.

But Arsenal face a huge run of games in October with nine games coming up – meaning Arteta will likely have to rotate and make full use of his squad.

Arsenal sit top of the Premier League after seven matches, winning six of those with their only blemish a defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford. Tottenham are right on their heels, however, sat in third place on 17 points – level with Manchester City.
